…people just started pouring out of their doors and into the streets in these residential neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Young folk, and older folk- everybody in tune and proud of our nation.. tonight was a night and a sight to see. A message to this generation: change is possible. Difference is possible. ”

We were election-channel surfing and went back to CNN to the timer countdown till the polls closed on the west coast. It was probably as close a thing ever to a New Years countdown.. because when it hit zero, CNN blasted Barack Obama ELECTED PRESIDENT and gave Obama all of California’s electoral votes (almost pre-emptively). Then the shouts from one apartment to another came and we went down into the street. Cars honking, bar-goers shouting, people high-fiving down the sidewalk.. (well one thing’s for sure- I’m glad I got invited out at the last second because it would’ve been half as climactic in my room).
